1. Vedrenne Curaçao Bleu
Overview
- Distiller: Vedrenne
- ABV: 25% (50 Proof)
- Country: France
- Colour: Electric Blue
Review
Vedrenne was founded in 1923 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, a small community in eastern France. Vedrenne is currently a family group comprising a variety of French distilleries and liqueur producers representing a longstanding heritage of local traditions.

The oranges with other botanicals are then placed in a bag inside a copper still, and the wash is then distilled for a second time. Cane sugar is added for sweetness, and blue colouring is added.

A zesty orange fragrance on the nose transcends into a tasty Curaçao with the slight bitterness of orange peel mixed with sweet orange flesh, and I could detect hints of bark on the finish.

Ingrid’s Top Pick
Giffard Curaçao Bleu
My personal favourite is Giffard Curaçao Bleu because the bitterness of the orange is nicely offset by sweeter creamy lemon sorbet and hints of mint. Use it in my ultimate Blue Lagoon cocktail recipe.
Expert Mixologist Tip
We reached out to Lisa Belczyk, founder of cocktail experience and private events company The Fizzy Coupe, to share her favourite Blue curaçao based cocktail.
The Blue Lady Cocktail
There’s just something magical about blue cocktails. Many blue drinks hail from the “disco era” of cocktails, but one of my favourites comes from the 1930s: the Blue Lady.
Blue curaçao is its backbone, and with gin, lemon juice, and an egg white, it’s a simple, delicious, and magical cocktail!
Lisa Belczyk – The Fizzy Coupe
Conclusion
This vibrant blue bittersweet nectar, made from oranges from the Island of Curaçao, is at the heart of many delicious cocktails. The blue-eyed Martini, Blue Hawaii, and Blue Lagoon cocktail (my recipe) won’t be the same without the best Blue Curaçao liqueurs as their base.
