Vodka Martini
- Total Time: 2 minutes
- Yield: 1 Serving 1x
Description
A symbol of cocktail culture (and also enjoyed by a certain British spy), the Vodka Martini is a classic cocktail epitomising elegance and refinement.
This Vodka Martini recipe offers a modern twist on the traditional martini, choosing vodka over gin for a smoother taste profile without gin’s juniper crispness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 oz of 60 ml quality Vodka
- 1/2 oz or 15 ml dry Vermouth
- Ice cubes
- Lemon twist or olives (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep: Fill a mixing glass or shaker with ice cubes, then add the vodka and dry vermouth.
- Mix: Stir (or shake) well until chilled.
- Pour: Strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Garnish: Add a lemon twist or an olive.
Notes
The Vodka Martini became particularly popular in the latter half of the 20th century, often associated with James Bond’s famous (and rather fussy) catchphrase, “shaken, not stirred.”
However, stirring is the traditional method for making this drink, as it gently chills the vodka without diluting it too much with shaken ice particles. You lightweight, Mr Bond.
