Description

The John Collins is a timeless cocktail that belongs to the Collins family of beverages, known for their refreshing and effervescence characteristics. 

This John Collins recipe combines the smoothness of bourbon whiskey with the tangy flavours of lemon juice and the sweetness of simple syrup, plus a splash of soda for fizz. 


Ingredients

  • 2 oz or 60 ml Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz or 30 ml Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz or 15 ml Simple syrup
  • Soda water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slice and a cherry (for garnish)

  2. Mix: Add bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup to the glass.

This cocktail is named after a headwaiter who worked at Limmer’s Old House in London in the early 19th century, where the drink is believed to have originated.

The John Collins is often confused with the Tom Collins, with the main difference being the type of spirit used: the John Collins is made with bourbon whiskey, while the Tom Collins is traditionally made with gin.
