Description
The Vesper Martini cocktail is an elegant blend of gin, vodka, and Lillet Blanc, made famous by Ian Fleming’s James Bond in the novel “Casino Royale.”
As always, the world’s most famous spy prefers his Vesper Martini shaken, not stirred. This is a standout choice for cocktail enthusiasts seeking a timeless classic.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 oz or 90 ml London Dry Gin
- 1 oz or 30 ml Quality Vodka
- 1/2 oz or 15 ml Lillet Blanc (or Cocchi Americano)
- Ice cubes
- Lemon peel (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep: Fill a shaker with ice cubes and add the gin, vodka, and Lillet Blanc.
- Combine: Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled.
- Pour: Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish: A twist of lemon peel.
Notes
In the novel “Casino Royale,” James Bond specifies that the Vesper Martini should be made with “three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet,” and garnished with a large, thin slice of lemon peel.
However, Kina Lillet is no longer produced, so Lillet Blanc or Cocchi Americano is commonly used as a substitute.
