Description

Born in the glamorous ’70s, the tequila sunrise is a cocktail that has stood the test of time, with its layers of vibrant orange and deep red capturing the essence of the morning sun.

One of my all-time faves, this tequila sunrise recipe is a harmonious blend of silver tequila, zesty fresh orange, and the sweet allure of grenadine promises to delight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz tequila (preferably silver or blanco)
  • 4 oz fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 oz grenadine syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep: Fill a chilled highball glass with ice cubes.
  2. Mix: Pour the tequila over the ice, followed by the fresh orange juice.
  3. Pour: Slowly pour the grenadine syrup over the back of a spoon to allow it to gently settle at the bottom.
  4. Do not stir: The grenadine should create a beautiful red-to-orange gradient, resembling a sunrise.
  5. Garnish: Add an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

Notes

I adjust the amount of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine depending on my mood. For an afternoon tipple, I go lighter on the tequila.

For an added twist, you can rim the glass with salt or add a splash of soda water for some fizz.
