Sangrita Cocktail
- Total Time: 2 minutes
- Yield: 1 Serving 1x
Description
Sangrita, not to be confused with Sangria, is a traditional Mexican drink that’s typically served alongside a shot of tequila as a non-alcoholic chaser.
The combination of tomato juice, orange juice, lime juice, and a blend of spices creates a balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy, making each sip of tequila a more rounded experience.
Unlike many cocktails, the Sangrita itself is meant to be sipped, not shot, and it reflects the rich culinary traditions of Mexico.
Ingredients
- 2 oz or 60 ml of Blanco Tequila (Serve as a separate shot)
- 1 cup Tomato juice
- 1/3 cup Orange juice
- 1/4 cup Lime juice
- 1 tsp Hot sauce
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of ground black pepper
- A dash of chilli powder
Instructions
- Pour: In a pitcher, mix together the tomato juice, orange juice, and lime juice.
- Spice: Add the hot sauce, salt, black pepper, and chilli powder. Adjust these to taste.
- Combine: Stir well to mix all the ingredients.
- Chill: Pop in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Serve: Present in a small glass alongside a shot of tequila.
Notes
Sangrita (‘little blood’) owes its name to the vibrant red colour of the tomato juice. Traditionally, it is used to cleanse the palate between sips of tequila.
This Sangrita recipe is a zesty, spicy mixture that complements the agave kick of your chosen tequila (or Mezcal), enhancing its flavours without overpowering them.
