Description
Originating from the heart of Mexico, The Paloma, which translates to “dove” in Spanish, is a cocktail that balances the tart, sweet, and salty with the fresh agave flavours of tequila.
While the Margarita often steals the limelight when it comes to tequila-based drinks, the Paloma stands as a testament to the simplicity of cocktail making.
Ingredients
- 2 oz (60 ml) tequila (preferably blanco or silver)
- 1/2 oz (15 ml) of fresh lime juice
- Grapefruit soda (like Jarritos or Squirt) to top up
- Salt (for the rim of the glass)
- Ice cubes
- Grapefruit or lime wedge, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare: Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
- Salt: Salt the rim (optional).
- Pour: Pour the tequila & fresh lime juice into the glass.
- Mixer: Top up the glass with grapefruit soda & stir.
- Garnish: Add a slice of lime.
- Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
If you don’t have grapefruit soda on hand or prefer a fresher version, I sometimes make my Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice and club soda instead.
Also, if you like a little more salty kick, you can add a small pinch of salt to the cubes when preparing.
