Old Fashioned Recipe
- Total Time: 2 minutes
- Yield: 1 Serving 1x
Description
Sweet yet slightly bitter and full of flavour, the Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail responsible for my eventual love of sipping neat whiskey. More than the sum of its parts, the Old Fashioned can be enjoyed by whiskey newbies and veterans alike and is a much-loved favourite of myself and Ingrid.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 oz or 60 ml of rye whiskey or bourbon
- 1 tsp of granulated sugar.
- 4 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Splash of water.
- Ice cubes.
- Garnish: Orange rind
Instructions
- Combine: Add the whiskey, sugar, and bitters to a rocks glass and stir until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
- Mixer: Add a splash of water and 3-4 large ice cubes.
- Garnish: Wipe the white inner side of the orange rind around the rim of the glass to release the orange oil, then pop it into the glass.
Notes
Sugar: Instead of 1 tsp of granulated sugar, you can instead use 1 oz or 30 ml simple syrup (aka sugar syrup)
Whiskey: If you prefer your Old Fashioned sweeter then use bourbon over rye whiskey

The ultimate whiskey cocktail! I prefer using simple syrup as it dissolves easier (and rye whiskey adds a nice kick of spice).
