The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is a celebrated classic from the storied family of “Corpse Reviver” cocktails, designed to jolt the senses and refresh the soul.

As one of the most famous of this group, our Corpse Reviver No. 2 recipe uses equal parts gin, orange liqueur, Lillet Blanc, and fresh lemon juice with a cheeky absinthe rinse!

This cocktail is renowned for its ability to awaken the palate with its crisp, tart, and slightly sweet flavours, making it a perfect choice for brunch or an after-dinner refreshment.

  • 1 oz or 30 ml Gin
  • 1 os or 30 ml Orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
  • 1 oz or 30 ml Lillet Blanc
  • 1 oz or 30 ml Fresh lemon juice
  • Dash of absinthe (rinse)
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange peel (for garnish)

  1. Rinse: Add a rinse of absinthe to a chilled cocktail glass, swirling it around to coat the interior, then discard the excess.
  2. Combine: Combine gin, orange liqueur, Lillet Blanc, and lemon juice into a shaker filled with 2-3 ice cubes.
  3. Shake: Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled.
  4. Pour: Strain into the prepared glass.
  5. Garnish: A twist of orange peel.

The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is part of a broader family of cocktails (see our Corpse Reviver No. 1 recipe) historically used as morning hangover cures to bring your body back from the dead.

This particular variant is especially noted for its balance and elegance, often highlighted as a perfect example of the pre-Prohibition cocktail.
