Description

The Brandy Crusta is a stylish and innovative cocktail that takes brandy to a whole new level. Bartender Joseph Santini of New Orleans is credited with its creation.

The Brandy Crusta delivers a bright, refreshing, and complex flavour by combining brandy with maraschino liqueur, orange curaçao, and fresh lemon juice.

I love it for the distinctive sugar-rimmed glass and lemon peel garnish that adds a touch of elegance, so this is one cocktail to elevate your status.

Instructions

  1. Prep 1: Rim a stemmed glass with sugar by moistening it with lemon juice first.
  2. Prep 2: Cut a long strip of lemon peel and line the inside of the glass with it.
  3. Prep 3: Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
  4. Combine: Add brandy, orange curaçao, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters.
  5. Mix: Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled.
  6. Pour: Strain into the prepared glass.

Notes

The Brandy Crusta was considered a modern cocktail due to its innovative use of a sugar rim. The cocktail’s name, “Crusta,” refers to the sugar crust that forms around the rim of the glass.

This drink’s influence can be seen in later cocktails like the Sidecar, which shares similarities in both flavour and style.
