Description

The Bahama Mama is a vibrant and fruity cocktail that transports drinkers to the sunfilled shores of the Bahamas with its tropical blend of flavours.

Our Bahama Mama recipe combines rum, coconut liqueur, and a mix of orange and pineapple juices, accented with a splash of grenadine for sweetness and colour.

With its tropical taste, the Bahama Mama is my cocktail choice for beach parties, summertime gatherings, and simply chilling by the pool.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 oz or 30 ml dark rum
  • 1 oz or 30 ml coconut liqueur (like Malibu)
  • 1/2 oz or 15 ml overproof rum (optional, for a more potent version)
  • 2 oz or 60 ml orange juice
  • 2 oz or 60 ml pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz or 15 ml Grenadine
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice and cherry (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep: Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Combine: Pour in the dark rum, coconut liqueur, rum (optional), orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine into a shaker.
  3. Mix: Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled.
  4. Pour: Strain into a large glass filled with ice.
  5. Garnish: An orange slice and a cherry.

Notes

The Bahama Mama is not only a feast for the palate but also for the eyes, often served in a highball or hurricane glass to showcase its beautiful layers of colour.

The cocktail’s name and tropical flavours reflect the laid-back, festive culture of the Bahamas, making it a staple drink at vacation resorts and cruise ships.
