Nestled in the highlands of the Jalisco mountains of Mexico, Cazcabel tequila is crafted using hand-harvested blue Weber agave from Arandas, where volcanic soil nurtures the plants over seven years.

After harvest, their piñas are steamed for 26 hours (in traditional brick ovens), giving their tequila a softer profile than you may be used to. Plus, it’s distilled in copper pot stills, much like gin.

Cazcabel’s Blanco captures agave’s raw, earthy flavour, while their Reposado and Añejo are aged in oak barrels for a rich complexity.

I find that the brand’s innovative Coconut, Honey, and Coffee varieties offer an enticing gateway into the world of Mexican firewater.

Review

Aged in American oak barrels, Cazcabel Reposado Tequila is an elegant yet approachable reposado tequila, bridging the gap between Blanco’s raw spirit and Añejo’s full maturity.

On The Nose

Warm vanilla, toasted oak, and gentle caramel.

On The Palate

A velvety wave of butterscotch and vanilla sweetness hits first, followed by subtle agave, oak, and a hint of caramel. The oak ageing adds a rounded warmth that wraps the flavours nicely.

Best Served

Neat or on the rocks to savour its depth or as a rich Tequila Old Fashioned twist. My extra top tip, try 50% blanco and 50% reposado in your next Margarita.

On The Nose

Sweet coconut, agave, and a hint of vanilla.

The Cazcabel Honey Tequila blends the earthy sweetness of blue agave with the smooth richness of honey. It’s a nuanced spirit similar to Mead that captures the warm essence of honey without overwhelming the agave.

On The Nose

Rich honey, with earthy agave and a whiff of toffee.

On The Palate

Sweet honey coats the tongue, giving way to caramel and butterscotch notes. The underlying agave remains prominent, providing a counterbalance to the honey’s warmth.
